Read:
When Deborah was sent to come to Israel’s aid after turning away from God (again—there’s that pattern!), she brought a message to Barak: Go, lead Israel in battle, and God will give your enemy into your hands. But Barak didn’t believe he was qualified for the task God was calling him to.
Have you ever felt that way—like you’re not qualified for what God is calling you to do? Barak’s story shows us that God doesn’t choose perfect people to lead. God can use imperfect people, as long as we’re willing. We can accomplish what God has called us to do, not because of our own abilities, but because God goes with us.
God was with Israel in the wilderness. He was with Barak on the battlefield. And Jesus promised that he will be with us, “even to the end of the age”. Is God asking you to do something that seems too difficult? Remember he is the one who accomplishes the work, and he will be with you always.
Prayer: Dear God, you have given me specific talents and passions that you can use to bring more people into relationship with you. Help me to remember that you will never leave me. You will give me the ability to serve you and the church. Amen.
