Bible Reading / Up Against a Wall: The Life of David

Day 7 | You’re Not as Alone as You Feel

Read:

Ever feel targeted or overwhelmed—like stress is coming at you from every direction? David knew that feeling. He caught wind of Saul’s desire to kill him, and he was forced to flee for his life. But even in the midst of danger, God’s protection is undeniable.

What’s interesting is God didn’t wield his own power directly—he used people to keep David from harm. Jonathan showed courageous loyalty to David, confronting his father and advocating on David's behalf. Jonathan's words stuck for a time, but Saul’s anger took back over. When Saul attacked again, David narrowly escaped—this time with the help of Michal, who used a bit of creative deception to save him. David then sought refuge with the prophet Samuel, where God intervened in a miraculous way to protect him once more.

These three people—Jonathan, Michal, and Samuel—show how God uses relationships as a safeguard for us. If you feel like you’re navigating stress or pain alone, look at who God has placed around you. His guidance often comes through the wisdom, warning, and help of others. You are never as alone as you feel.
