Most of us don’t go seeking out danger. You might be the kind of person who enjoys skydiving or bungee jumping—the “fun” kind of fear. But real danger, real fear, is something we try to avoid. We do everything in our power to steer clear of situations that could cause discomfort or harm and maximize our sense of safety and security.
The trouble is despite our best efforts, we can’t avoid pain, fear, or problems. And sometimes our preoccupation with comfort causes us to miss the incredible ways God works in our lives.
That’s why David’s perspective on fear is so powerful. He knew what real fear felt like. He faced literal life-or-death situations. There were so many times where he felt backed into a corner, up against a wall—but through it all he could see the incredible ways God got him through.
As you continue through David’s story, you’ll see a pattern: each time, in each situation, in each encounter with danger, David lacked nothing. God was with him. And he's with you, too, guiding you through the valleys and pits of this life. He will protect you, provide for you, and even bless you when it feels impossible.
When life gets hard, don’t try to shortcut the discomfort. Instead, follow the God who walks through it with you.
