We are constantly bombarded with the idea of more - more money, more possessions, more fun, more everything. We’re shown on TV, in social media, even in personal interactions that we should want more, bigger, better.
But what would happen if we shifted our focus to what we already have, thanking God for the blessings that he has already given us? With that shift, our perspective changes from a sense of lack or our glass being half empty to a sense of contentment and gratefulness that our glass is not just half full, but truly overflowing.
As the Apostle Paul instructed in his letter to the people of Philippi, we can and should pray to God about anything, telling him of our needs, but also thanking him for all he has already done. In doing so, we will experience God’s unprecedented peace. Our God is so generous! He provides all we need to live the fulfilling lives he intended.
Consider starting a gratitude journal and taking time each day to identify the ways God has shown up in your life. Things like answered prayers, needs that have been taken care of, and of course his outpouring of grace, mercy and love.
