If Jesus is coming back, why hasn't he come already? It's a fair question—and Peter answers it with something that should stop us in our tracks: God is waiting because he loves us. Every day that passes is another chance for someone to hear about Jesus, say yes to him, and experience transformation now and for eternity. The delay is his mercy in action.
This verse pulls back the curtain on the heart of God. He’s not slow, disorganized, or forgetful. He is patient—patient with the person in your family who hasn't believed yet, patient with your neighbor who’s hard to get to know, patient with the coworker you've been too nervous to invite to church. God's patience sometimes feels like indifference to us, but it’s really love.
This should reshape how we see the people around us. The waiting period we're in right now isn’t wasted time—it is prime time. We should feel a sense of urgency to introduce more people to Jesus. But this urgency isn’t meant to be rooted in fear, but love. God wants people found, and he’s asking us to be part of how that happens, right now, in the days we've been given.
Reflect: Think of one or two people in your life who don't yet know Jesus. Pray for them by name. Ask God to open their hearts—and ask him to give you the courage and the words to play a role in their story.
